Deadline extended for refuse and recycling carts

MARSHFIELD – The deadline for making changes to the new refuse and recycling carts in the city of Marshfield has been extended to Feb. 13.

Marshfield Public Works Director Dan Knoeck said that the extension is the result of an issue with the mailer that was designed to kick off the cart selection of the city’s new trash handling program.

“I previously reported that the mailing to kick off the cart selection process was sent out by Advanced Disposal on Friday, Jan. 12, which it was,” said Knoeck. “We were expecting that residents would start receiving those mailings the following Monday and Tuesday, around Jan. 16. Then, their website for making their cart selections went live on Jan. 15, in anticipation of those mailers being received by residents. Unfortunately, at this time, no residents have received those mailers yet.

“Advanced Disposal has been trying to figure out why that has happened. They haven’t gotten a satisfactory answer, but more importantly, they decided to send out a new mailer, which will be going out (Jan. 26). It is going out first class, so residents can expect to start receiving those the following week – that would be the 29th and 30th of January.”

The original deadline had been set for Feb. 4. Knoeck said that the new deadline would allow for a two-week window to get selections in and that the new deadline would be reflected in the most recent mailer.

As part of the curbside service, residents will receive a 96-gallon trash cart and a 96-gallon recycling cart by default. For those that desire a smaller size, 64-gallon and 35-gallon options are also available. Making no selection will result in 96-gallon trash and recycling carts.

On April 10, Advanced Disposal will begin delivery of the new carts, with the first collection date with the new carts scheduled for April 30.

Size selection may be requested by stopping at Advanced Disposal, returning the mailer, calling 715-502-3565, or visiting marshfieldads.com.
