Defunct Spencer Gordy’s store to be Great Lakes Fresh Market

By Kris Leonhardt
SPENCER – The former Spencer Gordy’s grocery store at 1110 S. Pacific St., Spencer, will be reincarnated as a Great Lakes Fresh Market.
The Gordy’s store closed Aug. 23 and was later part of a court-ordered auction held Sept. 25 to help pay off Gordy’s debts.
Former store manager, Andy Cveykus, and his wife purchased the store and on Nov. 13, Spencer village board members approved an alcohol retail license for Andy’s Sentry, which was revoked and resubmitted at the Jan. 8 meeting.
“Great Lakes Fresh Market is the company that is working with Andy right now,” said Spencer Village Clerk Paul Hensch. “Sentry Foods apparently is no longer going to be in (Spencer.) Andy has withdrawn his application for the liquor license for Andy’s Sentry and resubmitted it with Great Lakes Fresh Market.”
According to their website, Great Lakes Fresh Market has three locations in western Michigan and two in Wisconsin – one in Augusta and one in Osseo.
Cveykus will be releasing more details on the opening of the store in the upcoming week.
