MARSHFIELD – A Marshfield man is facing child prostitution and pornography charges after he responded to a Craigslist ad targeting child sex predators.

The man, identified as Jared Teche, 42, is facing 10 felony counts of possessing child pornography, as well as one felony count of soliciting a child for prostitution, in Wood County Court.

Court documents indicate the ad was posted by an officer from the Eau Claire Police Department, posing as the father of two girls. The ad claims that their mother is away, and girls, ages eight and 11, are available.

Teche allegedly agreed to pay $400 to have sexual contact with the 8-year-old, and had arranged a meeting with the girl Oct. 27, but backed out after suspecting the ad was a sting operation. Teche also sent a nude photo of himself to the officer.

An email from Teche was traced to an IP address in Marshfield, and investigators discovered more than 90 images and videos of child pornography at his home.

Teche reportedly told officers that he was simply trying to protect children from child sex trafficking.

He is scheduled to enter pleas to the charges in Wood County Court Jan. 3.
