An open letter to the Marshfield School Board

Dear fellow Board members,

I fully support the statement that board president Stueland made at the Dec. 13 meeting clarifying that the board and district are not a party to the lawsuit against Dr. Evers.

In this legal action, I am acting as an individual taxpayer on behalf of all taxpayers in Wisconsin, not as a representative of the Marshfield School Board. At the upcoming January meeting, I will propose a motion to clarify that the board is not a part of this lawsuit in any way and that I am acting on my own behalf as a taxpaying citizen.

Unfortunately, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Nov. 22 misstated the plaintiffs in this lawsuit, by including the Marshfield School Board. I suggest that a letter be sent to the paper correcting their error.

To be clear, I have not violated any school board policy, as I have never insinuated that I am representing the board in this matter and I have not received, nor do I expect to receive, any benefit, monetarily or otherwise.

If the board attempts to admonish me for joining this suit, I must vehemently protest that my board member status does not override my status as an individual citizen and does not limit my rights as such.

Respectfully,

Mary Carney
Marshfield, WI
