WRESTLING

Wolfe wins title for Auburndale

Keller Wolfe won the 170-pound championship and Auburndale finished in a tie for 12th at the 21-team Eau Claire North Husky Invitational on Dec. 9.

Wolfe improved to 9-0 this season by beating Levi Smith of Eau Claire memorial 14-9 in the 170-pound title match.

Samuel Hasenohrl had the Apaches’ only other top-five finish, taking fourth at 220 pounds. He dropped the third-place match to Logan Peterson of Ellsworth 6-4.

Stratford wins pool at Dells Duals

Stratford went 4-0 to win Pool A of the Dells Duals Classic on Dec. 9 at the Chula Vista Dome in Wisconsin Dells.

Stratford beat Stoughton 31-28, Freedom 51-26, Slinger 51-17, and Melrose-Mindoro/Gale-Ettrick-Trempeleau 59-17.

Karter Stuttgen (106 pounds), Manny Drexler (113), Max Schwabe (132), Jeremy Schoenherr (145) and Dylan Schoenherr (220) each went 4-0 for the Tigers. Drexler won all of his matches by pin, Schwabe had three pins, Jeremy Schoenherr had two pins and won two other matches by technical fall, and Dylan Schoenherr also had two pins.

Aiden Hoffman went 3-0 at 195 pounds and A.J. Schoenfuss was 3-1 at 126 with two pins for Stratford.

SC sweeps home duals

Spencer/Columbus Catholic was a perfect 4-0 to win its home SC Duals on Dec. 8 at Spencer High School.

The Rockets defeated Chetek-Weyerhaeuser/Prairie Farm 51-27, Almond-Bancroft/Pacelli 66-6, Phillips 39-36, and Edgar 52-21.

Seniors Dominick Wichlacz (120/126 pounds), Bryce Shaw (145/152), Caden Schillinger (160) and Hunter Luepke (220), junior Logan Zschernitz (285), and sophomore Ashton Ackman (113) all went 4-0 for Spencer/Columbus.

Leo Rodriguez (120), Jacob Dick (126/132), Andres Rodriguez (145/152), and Carson Hildebrandt (170) each went 3-1, and Kelley Delaney (106) and Tanner Kleinschmidt (182) also picked up wins for the Rockets.

GYMNASTICS

Marshfield second at Rhinelander

Emma Haugen and Brooke McGrath each won events to help the Marshfield gymnastics team to a second-place finish at the Snowflake Invitational on Dec. 9 at Rhinelander High School.

Haugen won the vault with a score of 8.875, edging teammate Isabelle Jensen, who had a score of 8.7 to finish second. McGrath won the floor exercise with a score of 8.95.

Jensen also finished third in the balance beam (8.15) and Macey Smith was fifth in the vault (8.4) for Marshfield’s other top-five finishes.

Ashland won the team title with a score of 131.55, with Marshfield second at 127.025.

BOYS HOCKEY

Marshfield drops two in WVC

After a back-and-forth first 20 minutes, Wisconsin Rapids scored four unanswered goals to pull away and defeat Marshfield 6-4 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Dec. 7 at South Wood County Ice Arena.

Isaac Wellens scored just 2:30 into the game for Marshfield (2-5, 0-2 Wisconsin Valley Conference), and after Wisconsin Rapids grabbed a 2-1 lead, Ryan Krueger tied the game with a power-play goal late in the first period for the Tigers.

Adam Maki gave Marshfield a 3-2 lead 2:37 into the second period with a goal off an assist from Krueger, but then it was all Rapids.

Carson Crotteau and Isaac Gilbert both scored in the second period to help Wisconsin Rapids (3-1, 1-0 WVC) regain the lead, and Colton Flammini completed the hat trick with two goals in a 34-second span in the third period to put the Raiders up 6-3.

Wellens added another goal at the 7:55 mark of the third period for the Tigers, but they couldn’t get any closer.

A.J. Trierweiler had 28 saves in goal for Marshfield.

Stevens Point shutout Marshfield 5-0 on Dec. 5 at the Marshfield Youth Ice Arena.

Dayne Hoyard scored four times for the Panthers. Trierweiler had 44 saves in goal for the Tigers.
