Weekly Boys Basketball Roundup: Columbus Catholic blows out Granton

Fifteen different players scored as the Columbus Catholic boys basketball team won its fourth-straight game 80-21, against Granton on Dec. 7, at Granton High School.

The Dons (4-1, 2-0 Cloverbelt Conference East Division) rolled out to a 44-6 lead by halftime as they rolled to the win in dominating fashion.

A number of junior varsity players saw action in the game for Columbus, as 15 players scored at least two points. Nick Malovrh led the way with 19 points, and Noah Hansen added nine for the Dons.

Stratford remains undefeated

Stratford shot 53 percent from the field and drilled eight 3-pointers to blow past Edgar 72-44 in a Marawood Conference South Division matchup Dec. 8 at Stratford High School.

Benjamin Barten had 15 points and five rebounds, Lance Heidmann added 13 points, and Trent Heckel was 3-for-3 from 3-point range and finished with 11 points for Stratford (2-0 Marawood South).

The Tigers were 22 of 41 overall from the field and made 8 of 13 3-pointers in the win. Stratford also made 20 free throws.

Stratford toppled Owen-Withee 58-45 in a nonconference game Dec. 9 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee to improve to 6-0 overall this season.

Stratford defeated Loyal 65-37 on Dec. 4 behind 15 points each from Vaughn Breit and Okley Wrensch.

Auburndale improves to 3-0

Auburndale won its third-straight game to start the season, coming back from a slight halftime deficit to beat Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 47-41 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Dec. 8 at Auburndale High School.

The Apaches (3-0, 2-0 Marawood South) trailed 22-20 at halftime before rallying for the win, holding Assumption (2-3, 0-2 Marawood South) to just 19 second-half points.

Colton Wright scored a team-high 17 points for Auburndale, making 4 of 9 shots from 3-point range. Cale Jacoby and Cooper Weinfurter each added nine points in the win.

Marshfield falls at La Crosse

Marshfield was held to just seven points in the first half and couldn’t recover, dropping a nonconference game at La Crosse Central 70-41 on Dec. 5.

Central (1-1) pulled out to a 42-7 lead by halftime, sending the Tigers (2-3) to their third-straight road loss.

Reed Miller scored 19 points, including five 3-pointers, and Preston Wagner added nine points for Marshfield.

The Tigers shot just 34 percent (15 of 43) from the field, committed 19 turnovers, and made just 1 of 7 free throws.

Owen-Withee edges Spencer

Spencer came up a point short in a 54-53 loss to Owen-Withee on Dec. 7 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game at Spencer High School.

Spencer led by one at halftime before Owen-Withee was able to pull out the win at the end.

Jack Bezlyk had 19 points to lead Spencer (2-2, 1-2 Cloverbelt East).
