Patrick D. Johnson
Patrick D. Johnson, 75, Marshfield, died on Monday, December 4, 2017 at his home with his wife by his side, after a year and a half battle with lung cancer.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 am until service time. Rev. Eric Berns will officiate. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery at a later date and military rites will be conducted at the church by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield, following the service. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Patrick was born on February 17, 1942 in Marshfield, to Donald K. and Florus R. (Aigner) Johnson. He was a 1961 graduate of Columbus High School. Patrick was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1963. He then served in the Reserves from 1963 until 1967. He married Mary M. Derge on October 17, 1964; they later divorced. He married Mary K. Hirsch on March 31, 1990.
In his earlier years Patrick worked as a bartender, was a laborer at Cooper Cheese and worked for his father at Marshfield Lumber Company, Inc. His last position was at Central State Supply Corporation for over 36 years, retiring as Vice President. During these years, he was also co-owner of Hydro-Growers, Inc., growing hydroponic tomatoes and was President of Consolidated Leasing.
Patrick enjoyed golfing and watching all sports, from youth and high school football and basketball games to professional sporting events. He also enjoyed fine dining and a good, dry martini. The Father’s Day weekend gatherings at the Wein cottage with his fellow CHS 1961 classmates were looked forward to each year, as were his daily coffee meetings with friends at the Patio Restaurant.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Mary Hirsch; children, Stacy (Keith) Meyer of Dorchester; Scott Johnson of Green Bay; Stuart (Michele) Johnson of Green Bay; Derek (Kristen) Johnson of Matthews, NC; Bill Proesel (Lori Barlow) of Auburndale and Kristin (Dale) Peplinski of Milladore. He is also survived by grandchildren, Ashley Meyer (Brandon Mueller), Jarod Johnson, Tyler and Chase Johnson, Dylan, Dayne and Katelyn Peplinski, and Alexandra and Michael Williams, and great grandchildren, Emmett Mueller and Jordy Williams. He is further survived by sisters, Joyce St. John (life partner – Betty Gleisner) of Mendota Heights, MN; Janet (Ray) Otto of Las Cruces, NM; Rita Johnson of Marshfield; Elizabeth Aigner (husband – Paul Landau) of Hood River, OR; Martha Johnson (husband – Kevin Riordan) of Brookfield; Amy Johnson of Eau Claire and a sister-in-law, Corinne Johnson of Marshfield.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Judy (Jack) Koenig in 1999, his brother, Richard Johnson in 1998 and grandchildren, Kristi and Kari Proesel.
The family will designate a memorial in Pat’s name at a later date.
