Columbus splits at Cranberry Classic

Columbus Catholic lost its opener but came back to win the third place game at the Cranberry Classic at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption High School.

The Dons lost to Assumption 58-43 in a semifinal on Nov. 24 before rebounding to beat Nekoosa 76-51 in the third-place game on Nov. 25.

Assumption outscored the Dons 31-22 in the first half and 27-21 in the second, as it held Columbus’ offense down.

Nick Malovrh had 13 points and Jarred Mandel added 11 for the Dons.

Against Nekoosa, the Dons (1-1) put up 51 points in the first half to roll to the victory. Malovrh had 21 points and Noah Taylor added 12, as 10 different Dons scored in the win.

Marshfield loses first two

Marshfield had a rough going in its first two games of the season, losing a pair at the Oshkosh Classic.

Oshkosh West beat the Tigers 84-58 on Nov. 24, and Marshfield fell to Oshkosh North 103-67 on Nov. 25.

Marshfield made 10 3-pointers in the loss to West, but the Wildcats made 12 from long range and were a perfect 13-for-13 at the free throw line.

Reed Miller scored 14 points and Seth Anderson added 12 for the Tigers.

In the loss to North, Anderson scored a team high 20 points and Adam Hauge chipped in 17 points for Marshfield.
