Letter to the Editor: Readers urge Kulp to address gun safety
Dear editor,
Concerned citizens of the 69th assembly district are asking Rep. Bob Kulp to withdraw his sponsorship of Senate Bill 169 and to represent the welfare of his neighbors with a “no” vote on this bill.
For those who do not know, Bill 169 permits older high school students to carry loaded weapons on school property and makes it legal for felons and domestic abusers to purchase and own certain guns by changing the definition of “firearms.” If Mr. Kulp chooses to receive money and advice from the National Rifle Association, we urge him to use the lobby’s considerable resources toward areas benefiting Wisconsin families — firearm safety, harm reduction, and preservation of the state’s sportsman tradition — rather than making the jobs of teachers and police officers more difficult and dangerous.
