MARSHFIELD — A 56-year-old Spencer woman was charged in Marathon County Court for putting anti-anxiety medication, eye drops, and other substances in coffee belonging to her supervisor.
Karen M. Zenner was charged in March with placing foreign objects in edibles following the January incident in which she allegedly put substances in her boss’ coffee to make him ill so he might forget the $2,000 loan he had given her.
When her boss noticed a substance floating in his coffee cup, he called police. According to court records, camera footage showed that Zenner was the only one who had been near the coffee.
Zenner told investigators that she had been placing substances in his coffee for several weeks in an attempt to make her boss, who had diabetes, ill.
In June Zenner pled not guilty to placing foreign objects in edibles, a class I felony that comes with up to $10,000 in fines and/or three years and six months imprisonment if convicted.
On Oct. 16 Zenner reached a plea deal in Marathon County Court, to which she pled guilty and received nine months in jail and three years of probation.
