MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team is a win away from the state tournament after shutting out Arcadia 3-0 in a WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinal Thursday at Griese Park.

Columbus Catholic (18-4-1) moves on to play Chippewa Falls McDonell/Eau Claire Regis (10-4-3) in a sectional final at 1 p.m. Saturday at Arcadia. The winner qualifies for next week’s 2017 WIAA State Boys Soccer Tournament at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.

Columbus Catholic is looking for its second state tournament appearance, with the other coming in 2006.

The Dons faced McDonell/Regis twice during the regular season, tying 2-2 and lost 2-1 in a pair of tight contests.

The Dons’ victory avenges a 7-5 loss to Arcadia in last year’s sectional semifinal.

Evan Dieringer headed in a beautiful crossing pass from Nadim Torbey to put the Dons up 1-0 in the 23rd minute.

Torbey added a goal about a minute before halftime, and Dieringer scored again 2:48 into the second half to finish off the scoring for Columbus.

Noah Hansen had six saves in goal for the Dons.
