STEVENS POINT — The Auburndale volleyball team gave Stevens Point Pacelli all it could handle before eventually dropping a 3-2 decision on Thursday in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal.
Auburndale lost the first two games 25-22, 25-23 before storming back to win the next two by identical 25-17 scores. However, Pacelli was able to rebound with a 15-9 win in the fifth set to secure the victory.
Pacelli moves on to a regional final Saturday when it will host Athens.
Auburndale managed only 40 kills in the five sets but stayed alive with a stellar defensive effort. The Apaches had 114 digs, including 23 each from Teryn Lau and Maggie Willfahrt and 21 more from Rachael Bolder.
Marissa Ponshock led Auburndale with 10 kills, Mackenzie Raab had 17 assists and 17 digs, and Bolder added eight kills in the loss.
