Tigers finish WVC at 2-9-1

MARSHFIELD — Wausau West set the tone early with four goals in the first 32½ minutes and went on to a 6-1 victory over Marshfield in the Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer finale for both teams on Thursday at Griese Park.

Luke Bailey scored 4:19 into the game, and the Warriors added three more unanswered scores to take a 4-0 lead.

Evan Weister scored off an assist from Grant Urban at the 39:44 mark to get Marshfield on the board, but that was all the Tigers could get past West goalkeepers Pranav Srivastava and Austin Federici.

Marshfield moves to 4-12-1 overall and finishes 2-9-1 in the WVC. West is now 11-3-2 and ends up 9-2-1 in conference play.

“Tonight was a disappointing loss,” Marshfield coach Steve McCann said. “I really was expecting a tighter game tonight. We have been making good progress through the season, week-to-week, and have had some excellent practices. We were so flat for the first 20-25 minutes, very disappointing.

“We need to get back to the practice field tomorrow, get better, and will play our last regular season game at Onalaska on Saturday. This game has seeding implications so is a very important contest before our seeding meeting Sunday.”

The nonconference game at the Omni Center in Onalaska begins at 11 a.m.
