GREEN BAY — Registration for the 10th annual Festival Foods Turkey Trot is now open. Held annually Thanksgiving morning, the Turkey Trot is the state’s largest running event based on registered participants, including nearly 32,000 in 2016.
The 2017 event begins at 8 a.m. on Nov. 23. Participants may choose a 5-mile run, 2-mile walk, or 2-mile dog jog.
All proceeds benefit local Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCAs in the communities where the Festival Foods Turkey Trot events are held. The 2016 events raised $360,000, and over the span of its nine years, the Festival Foods Turkey Trot has raised $1,930,000.
The local Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCAs provide a large number of volunteers for each event, and there are a variety of roles available for community members to fill, such as course monitors, helping with registration, and distributing water and pies to participants.
Online early bird registration is $15 for youth under age 18 and $20 for adults through Oct. 31. New this year, everyone who registers by Oct. 31 will receive $10 in coupon savings for Festival Foods stores. In addition, this year’s dog jog registrants will receive a coupon from Purina redeemable at Festival Foods. The registration price will increase Nov. 1.
All participants receive a long-sleeved T-shirt at registration and a free Festival Foods pumpkin pie at the finish line.
“Each year it amazes me how much this event continues to impact the community. The energy of the runners and walkers, the leadership of the volunteers, and the ongoing commitment from event sponsors truly bring our communities together,” said Mark Skogen, president and CEO of Festival Foods. “We look forward to this year’s event and to continuing this tradition for many years to come.”
