Rockets wrap up Cloverbelt action next week in Marshfield vs. Altoona

EAU CLAIRE — The Spencer/Columbus football team keeps on rolling.

The Rockets shut out Eau Claire Regis in the first half and went on to a 23-8 victory in a Cloverbelt Conference game Thursday at Carson Park. The win is Spencer/Columbus’ fourth in a row as the team improves to 6-1 overall and in Cloverbelt play. Regis drops to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

“Regis was well-prepared and will be a good playoff team,” Spencer/Columbus coach Jason Gorst said. “I was happy with the way our guys played in some rough moments. Ethan’s (Meece) pick at the end of the half in the end zone was a huge momentum play. Logan (Zschernitz) had a great game on both sides of the ball. Hunter (Luepke) gave us a little extra and really created some yards after contact.”

Spencer/Columbus hosts Altoona in its Cloverbelt finale next Friday, Oct. 6, at Beell Stadium in Marshfield as part of the Columbus Catholic High School’s homecoming week. The Rockets finish the regular season Oct. 13 with a nonconference game at Glenwood City.
