Auburndale girls win team title at Athens Cross Country Invitational

Columbus boys third, Stratford girls take fourth

ATHENS — Isabella Jewell finished third, and Kali Karl took fifth to lead the Auburndale girls cross country team to the team title at the Athens Invitational on Thursday.

Auburndale’s five best finishers all ended up in the top 10 as the Apaches finished with 35 points, 27 ahead of second-place Phillips. Stratford was fourth (115), Spencer fifth (130), and Marshfield Columbus Catholic sixth (152) in the team standings.

Kortnie Volk of Three Lakes won the girls race in 20:02.1, about 20 seconds ahead of Jewell. Karl was fifth at 21:01.8, Erricka Zenner took eighth, Taylor Stanton was ninth, and Vanessa Mitchell finished 10th for the Apaches.

Macie Schillinger finished seventh to lead Stratford, running in 21:08.3.

Spencer’s top runner was Kaitlin Kasch, who was 16th in 21:58.1, and Columbus was led by Marissa Immerfall, who was 25th in 23:08.6.

Phillips won the boys team title with 49 points, 12 better than Wisconsin Rapids Assumption. Columbus Catholic was third with 112, Stratford fifth at 156, Spencer sixth at 157, and Auburndale seventh at 161.

Sean Dolan of Wisconsin Rapids Assumption outran teammate Garrett Dolan to win the boys race in 16:58.1.

Columbus Catholic’s Peyton Nystrom was the top area runner, taking sixth in 17:48.1.

James Heeg of Stratford was eighth in 18:03.7, and Aaron Pankratz of Spencer finished 10th in 18:07.4 to also earn top-10 finishes.

Auburndale’s top runner was Carl Lundgren, who took 23rd in 18:34.4.
