Steven William Helmke died on Friday, September 22, 2017. He was 56 years old.

Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Saturday September 30, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran church in Marshfield Wisconsin, with Rev. Jon Guenther officiating. Burial will take place in Brooklawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Town of Richfield, Wood County. The visitation will be on Friday, September 29 from 4-7 PM at Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield, and on Saturday from 10 AM until service time.

He was born on February 18, 1961 in Marshfield Wisconsin to William and Lucille (Schnabel) Helmke. On September 22, 1984, he married Rhonda Benita Kohel. They were happily married for 33 years. Steve was a very loving devoted husband and father.

Steve graduated from Stratford High School and attended North Central Technical College in agriculture mechanics and various farming courses. He served in various capacities on the Land ‘O Lakes board during his years of farming.

He was self-employed as a dairy and crop farmer at the Helmke family farm for 28 years. For the past 11 years he was employed at the Marshfield Clinic as a Courtesy Attendant and Pharmacy Technician.

Steve loved music and was a beautiful and talented singer. He played keyboard and was lead singer in a rock band, sang for many weddings and sang in church choir. Various years he served as elder, president, choir director and other roles in church. Steve and his wife Rhonda and son William enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and to several countries, including many exciting adventrous trips on the motorcycle. He enjoyed planning trips as much as going on them. He loved going to super hero and sci-fi movies with his family. Steve was a very friendly, outgoing, wonderful person who always had a smile and kind word for others.

Steve is survived by his wife Rhonda (Kohel) Helmke of Stratford WI, one son, Willian (Kelly) Helmke of Champaign IL, two sisters Debbie (Tony) Sulko and Jeanne Streinbrecher and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his mother Lucille (Schnabel) Helmke-Robinson and his father William Henry Helmke.

Memorials may be given to the family to be designated at a later date.
