Marathon pulls past Auburndale football

Apaches drop to 2-2 in Marawood

MARATHON — Marathon quarterback Donavon Free threw for 179 yards and ran for 177 yards and two touchdowns as the Raiders topped Auburndale 35-13 in a Marawood Conference football game Friday night at Marathon High School.

Marathon remains unbeaten in the Marawood Conference at 3-0 and improves to 5-1 overall. Auburndale is now 3-3 and 2-2 in conference play.

Free had touchdown runs of 28 and 8 yards, and Dyllan Seehafer added a 4-yard TD run to give Marathon a 21-0 lead with 4:11 to go in the second quarter.

Auburndale responded with a 45-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Isaacson to Colton Yeske, but Marathon added two more third-quarter touchdowns to pull away.

Marathon outgained the Apaches 493-268 in the victory.

Auburndale hosts Stratford next Friday, Sept. 29.
