Apaches improve to 2-1 in Marawood

By Paul Lecker

Sports Reporter

TOMAHAWK — The Auburndale football team earned a big road win in Marawood Conference play on Friday night, edging Tomahawk 20-13 at Tomahawk High School.

Auburndale pulled out the win with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns. Quarterback Ryan Isaacson scored on a 3-yard touchdown run with just nine seconds remaining to lift the Apaches to the victory in a back-and-forth game.

The win improves Auburndale’s record to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the Marawood Conference. The Apaches will need to win just one of their final four games to break even in the conference and likely earn a second-straight WIAA playoff berth.

Tomahawk is now 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the Marawood.

Jacob Peplinski scored on a 14-yard run in the first quarter to put Auburndale ahead, and the Apaches led 7-0 at halftime.

Tomahawk tied the game with a third-quarter touchdown pass before Auburndale pulled back in front on a 3-yard touchdown run by Isaacson in the opening minute of the fourth quarter.

After Tomahawk tied the game again with a TD pass with just 2:31 to go, the Apaches drove down the field, and Isaacson scored the last-second touchdown to lift Auburndale to the victory.

Auburndale plays at Marathon next Friday, Sept. 22.
