William M. Nugent, 74, Marshfield, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 13, 2017 in the Emergency Room of Marshfield Medical Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 1410 West 5th St., Marshfield, with Rev. Eric Berns officiating. The visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday at Rembs Funeral Home and from 10:00 am until service time Monday at Our Lady of Peace Church. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield. Military rites will be conducted at Our Lady of Peace Church by the American Legion Post 54, following the service.

William was born on September 29, 1942 in Stevens Point, to Raymond and Isabel (Brill) Nugent and attended Stevens Point Schools and the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.

After his high school education, he entered the United States Navy, serving during the beginning of the Vietnam War. He married Linda J. Wesling on August 24, 1968 in Milwaukee. After his college education, he began employment with the Marshfield Clinic and trained as an EEG Technician. He then moved into Ultra Sound and began the Pediatric Ultrasound Department with Dr. George Griese. He later created the Cardiac Ultrasound Department with Dr. Bruce Fye. He was employed at Marshfield Clinic for over 40 years until his retirement in 2007.

He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Church and the Knights of Columbus John Eisen Council #1799.

Bill was an excellent watercolorist. His works are in many homes throughout Marshfield. The family asks that those who have an artwork of Bill’s bring it to the visitation at the funeral home or at church and display for others to enjoy and retrieve when they leave.

Bill cherished his family. He is survived by his wife, Linda and their sons and 5 grandchildren. Their sons are Andrew (Caitlin) Nugent of Minneapolis and their children, Liam, Owen and Hugh; and Steven (Christie) Nugent of Minnetonka and their children, Tilly and Rocky. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert Nugent of Waukesha and Edward (Mary) Nugent of Green Bay and his sister, Patricia (John) Ridgway of Chili, WI and his mother-in-law, Margaret P. Wesling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Isabel Nugent, his father-in-law, Robert O. Wesling and his sister-in-law, Sharon Nugent.

Memorials may be designated in Bill’s name to Columbus Catholic High School or Our Lady of Peace Church.
