WISCONSIN RAPIDS — A Marshfield man has been charged in Wood County court with theft in a business setting.
According to the criminal complaint, the charge stems from transactions that occurred between July 2016 and November 2016 while 39-year-old Adam Karau of Marshfield was employed at Lammar’s Smokehouse, then located on Marshfield’s south side.
The owner of the smokehouse became suspicious of Karau when he noticed more than 70 voided transactions in a four-month period as well as a transaction involving a fraudulent gift card.
When questioned by police, Karau allegedly admitted to falsifying voided transactions and taking the money as well as making out the gift card.
Theft in a business setting involving amounts between $2,500-$5,000 is a class I felony that may result in up to a $10,000 fine, three years and six months imprisonment, or both if convicted.
