A number of former local high school athletes have moved on to the next level and are playing collegiate sports across the country. Periodically, Hub City Times will publish a college sports roundup, updating readers of some of those athletes’ exploits.

Schwecke

Schwecke plays in Northwoods League

Trevor Schwecke, a 2015 graduate of Marshfield High School and a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, played summer baseball for the Eau Claire Express of the Northwoods League.

Schwecke, the UW-Milwaukee starting shortstop last spring as a freshman, played in 27 games for the Express after being signed by the team in mid-July.

Schwecke hit .242 (24-for-99) with 12 runs scored, 12 RBIs, and four stolen bases for Eau Claire. He went 2-for-3 against Mankato in a Northwoods League playoff game on Aug. 14 that the Express lost 12-0.

Numerous athletes make college football debuts

No less than 18 area high school graduates currently dot the rosters of a number of NCAA Division II and Division III college football teams that opened the season Sept. 2.

Wilson

Many of the area grads are playing at University of Wisconsin systems schools on the Division III level in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Spencer graduates Spencer Susa and Dakota Andreae and Marshfield grad John Roherty are playing at UW-La Crosse; Marshfield alumnus Cameron Swanson is a junior defensive back at UW-Eau Claire; Stratford’s Dylan Peterson is an defensive lineman for UW-Stout; Nick Hoheisel from Marshfield is a sophomore running back at UW-Whitewater; and Auburndale’s Kaleb Bolder and Collin Hawkins, Colby’s Trevor Wilde, and Marshfield’s Tristan Wilson play for UW-Stevens Point.

Bornbach

Stratford has three 2017 graduates playing on the Division II level in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference: Kamren Bornbach at St. Cloud State, Tanner Weinfurtner at Winona State, and Tyson Kauffman at Concordia University.

Stratford’s Hunter Kauffman (Concordia), Marshfield’s Zach McManus (Minnesota-Duluth), and Marshfield’s Neil Voros (St. Thomas) are also competing for Division II teams in Minnesota.

Additionally, two former Marshfield players are playing on the Division III level at the University of Northwestern in St. Paul, Minnesota. Offensive lineman Tabor Ferris is a senior, and wide receiver/quarterback Derek Coffren is a freshman.
