Tigers drop to 1-1 in WVC

STEVENS POINT — The Marshfield volleyball team put itself in too big of a hole to dig out of and dropped a 3-1 decision to Stevens Point in a Wisconsin Valley Conference match Thursday at Stevens Point Area Senior High.

SPASH won the first two games — 25-13, 25-12 — before Marshfield got things rolling. The Tigers won the third game 25-18 and then had Point on the ropes in the fourth before losing 26-24.

“After struggling in the first two sets, we put up an awesome fight in the last two sets,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “I am so proud of how hard the girls played in set No. 4. I would really have liked to see them get to game 5. We grew as a team a lot tonight despite the loss.”

Lindsey Steffen had nine kills and two aces, Maddi Nelles and Hannah Meverden each added six kills, Kaydee Johnson had a team-high 14 digs, and Corianne Johnson had 29 assists and 13 digs for the Tigers (1-1 WVC).

Marshfield’s next match is Tuesday at home against Chippewa Falls beginning at 7 p.m.
