LOYAL — Though hindered by rainy weather, the 2017 Loyal Corn Festival continued an annual tradition beginning with the coronation of the Corn Festival Queen on Aug. 24 and culminating on Aug. 27.

For nearly two decades, the Corn Creation Recipe Contest has been a staple of the festival. This year’s contest featured cheesy jalapeno corn dip, heart of gold corn fritters, cheesy grits with bacon and egg waffles, and popcorn corn pudding waffles.

Betty Loos took the top prize in the contest for her heart of gold corn fritters.
