Auburndale football explodes in second half to rout Manawa

Apaches return two interceptions for touchdowns in home win

AUBURNDALE — The Auburndale football team evened its record at 1-1 this season with a come-from-behind 34-13 nonconference victory over Manawa on Friday night at Auburndale High School.

Manawa led 7-0 at halftime before the Apaches exploded for five second-half touchdowns, including a 20-point third quarter.

Aaron Marth and Trayton Weister each returned inceptions for touchdowns, Marth’s covering 50 yards and Weister’s going 87 yards.

Jacob Peplinski rushed for 131 yards and a score, and Weister added 99 yards and two touchdowns as Auburndale racked up 293 yards on the ground.

Cale Jacoby caught four passes for 70 yards as well for the Apaches.

Auburndale plays at Rib Lake/Prentice at Prentice High School next Friday, Sept. 1, in a Marawood Conference contest.
