Dorothy Mary Luken
Dorothy Mary Luken, 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on August 19, 2017, after a short illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pittsville, where the visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 am until service time. Rev. Gary Markworth will officiate. Burial will take place in St. John’s Cemetery in the Town of Hansen, Wood County, and serving as pallbearers will be Tom, Brandon and Dylan Hakanson, Bill Spaeth, Dan Ortner and Joe Ortner. Buchanan / Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Dorothy was born on March 23, 1926, to Charles and Louise (Zellmer) Horn in the Town of Wood in Wood County, Wisconsin. She was one of ten brothers and sisters.
She attended Pleasant Corners School and Pittsville High School, graduating in 1943.
She married Anton (Tony) Luken on November 16, 1946. They raised three children, Judy, Ann, and Tony, on their farm in the Town of Wood before moving to Pittsville in 2008. She recently moved to Glenwood City, Wisconsin, to be nearer to her family.
Dorothy was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pittsville. She faithfully served in Ladies Aid and other activities.
She was an expert seamstress and crafted many beautiful garments for her children and others. She served as Pleasant Corners 4-H sewing leader for several years. She later used these skills and operated Dot’s Upholstery with her husband, Tony.
Dorothy was an avid vegetable and flower gardener, known especially for her asparagus, strawberries, and tomatoes. Her freezer and basement shelves were always well stocked with the fruits of her labor. Her lovely flower gardens brought her much joy and were featured in several Pittsville Garden Walks.
She also was a great cook and baker, and she loved to entertain family and friends. She will be fondly remembered for all the delicious meals and treats she served.
Her survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Judy Schlottman of Boyceville, WI, and Ann and Alan Anderson of Shoreview, MN; son and daughter-in -law Tony and Marti Luken of Lucas, TX; grandchildren Susan (Tom) Hakanson, Vicky (Bill) Spaeth, and Jason (Tami) Schlottman; great-grandchildren Brandon and Dylan Hakanson, Kaylin and Kimberly Spaeth, and Kyle Schlottman; and sisters-in -law Mary (Elmer) Horn and Evelyn (Carl) Horn.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of sixty-six years, Tony; her infant son, Carl; her son-in-law, Ken Schlottman; her sisters, Norma Schmoldt, Lucille Bubolz, and Florence Rumlow; and her brothers, Kurt, Leonard, Edward, Carl, Lawrence, and Elmer Horn.
