PLOVER — The Marshfield Post 54 baseball team had its season come to an end with a 4-1 loss to D.C. Everest in an elimination game at the Class AAA American Legion regional on Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Park.
Everest scored three runs in the fourth inning to break open a scoreless contest and held on from there.
Connor Langbehn had an RBI double and later scored on an error, and Sam Nielsen reached on an error that plated Nate Jagodzinski to put Everest up 3-0 against Marshfield starter Jared Johnsrud.
Marshfield got a run back in the bottom of the fifth when Andy Goettl walked, moved to third on a single by Ryan Krueger, and scored on an error. That was all the Blue Devils would muster against Everest pitcher John Braske.
Braske went the distance, striking out four and walking three while scattering seven hits over his nine innings on the mound.
Logan Langbehn drove in Everest’s final run with a two-out single in the eighth.
Johnsrud went the distance as well for the Blue Devils, striking out five. Only one of the four runs he allowed was earned.
Austin Palacek and Hunter Korger each had two hits for Marshfield.
Marshfield finishes its season with a 12-14 record. D.C. Everest moves on to another elimination game Thursday against Wisconsin Rapids at 1 p.m. The winner will play again at 7 p.m.
