STEVENS POINT — The Marshfield Post 54 Junior American Legion baseball team stayed alive in the 17U regional, going 1-1 on Thursday at Bukolt Park.

Marshfield lost to Stevens Point in its opener 7-1. The game was postponed by rain after 1½ innings on Wednesday night, and after play resumed Thursday, Point pushed out to a 7-0 lead after four innings before Marshfield scored its only run in the fifth.

The Blue Devils were held to just two hits, both singles by Devyn Palmer, and had their eight-game winning streak snapped.

Later Thursday, the Blue Devils got their bats going, using an eight-run third inning to erase a 3-0 deficit, and they held on from there to beat Wausau 15-13.

Despite a seven-run sixth inning by Wausau that cut the lead to two, Palmer was able to throw a scoreless seventh to preserve the victory.

Tyler Spaeth went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs; Palmer had three RBIs; and Mason Coffren, Caden Schillinger, and Ryan Zickert each had two RBIs as well for Marshfield.

Marshfield (18-6) will play at 2:30 p.m. Friday in an elimination game. The winner will play again at 7 p.m.
