MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield Post 54 American Legion baseball team evened its season record with a 10-8 victory over Plover in its 2017 home finale Tuesday night at Jack Hackman Field.

The Blue Devils came from behind twice to pull out the victory despite allowing 18 hits and eight walks to a potent Plover team.

Marshfield is now 10-10 overall and 6-5 in the Wisconsin Valley Legion League. The Blue Devils play a doubleheader at Antigo on Thursday and wrap up its regular-season schedule Friday at D.C. Everest. The Class AAA regional will be at Plover from July 18-22.

Plover led 2-1 after 2½ innings and 6-5 after 5½ innings only to see Marshfield come back each time with four-run frames in the third and sixth.

Jake Brueggen scored on an error, Hunter Korger walked with the bases loaded, and Andy Goettl had a two-run double to provide Marshfield with four runs in the third inning.

After Plover rallied to regain the lead, Marshfield did the same with a big sixth inning. Logan Jakobi had a sacrifice fly to score Goettl, Austin Palacek had a two-run double, and Jacob Neve drove in Brueggen with a single to put the Blue Devils up 9-6.

Neve had an RBI fielder’s choice in the eighth to provide Marshfield with its final run.

After two singles to start the top of the ninth, Jared Johnsrud was able to coax a double play and a pop out to end the game and earn the save for Walker Wuethrich, who earned the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Neve and Goettl each had two hits and two RBIs, and Brueggen scored three times for Marshfield.

Derek Baumgartner led the hit parade for Plover, going 4-for-6 with two doubles, three RBIs, and three runs scored.
