Speak your peace: Seek common ground
By Amber Kiggens-Leifheit

The Marshfield Area Community Foundation sponsors the Speak Your Peace Civility Project. The basic principles are simple and straightforward and involve the idea that it is often not what is said but how it is said that initiates conflict. The more we all learn about polite, civil discussion is a good thing. It is worth a try, and it may help bring our community together. This week we will examine: Seek Common Ground.
Many have seen the image included with this article. What do you see? Do you see an old lady or a young girl? Do you see both images?
Why do we see things differently? It might be due to our background, education, or many other things. Seeking common ground means that we are going into a conversation looking for an area of agreement.
If you saw an old lady or a young girl in this picture, we can all agree that there is a female in the picture. When we disagree with people, we need to seek common ground.
