David P. Poppy

David P. Poppy, 62, Marshfield, died on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Eric Berns officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery at a later date and serving as pallbearers will be Jerome Johnson, Jeff Bucheger, Dale Johnson, Peter Johnson, Alan Poppy and Jeremiah Poppy. The visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, and from 9:30 am until service time on Wednesday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Military rites will be conducted at the church by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield following the service.

David was born on April 4, 1955 in Marshfield, to John and Mabel (VandenBergen) Poppy and was a 1973 graduate of Auburndale High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam War from 1973 until his honorable discharge in 1977. He married Sue Johnson on July 16, 1983 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield.

Dave had been employed at Carquest Auto Parts in Marshfield for over 30 years until his retirement in December 2015. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Church, The Marshfield Eagles Club and Teamsters Union Local #662. He enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycle, drawing and spending time with his family and especially his granddaughter, Olivia.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Sue and their daughter, Amanda (Nathan) Anderson of Marshfield, his granddaughter Olivia Anderson, and brothers and sisters, DuWayne (Pat) Poppy, Sharon (Ivan) Fuerlinger, all of Marshfield, and twin siblings, John (Jeanne) Poppy of Weston and Joan (Robert) Lingford of Marshfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dolores Klein.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family who will make a donation in David’s name to a charity that he chose.
