PLOVER — Marshfield Post 54 got out to an early lead but could not hold on as it dropped a 9-3 decision to Plover in a Wisconsin Valley Legion League baseball game Wednesday night at Memorial Park.

The loss is Marshfield’s first of the season as the Blue Devils fall to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Marshfield scored twice in the top of the second inning with a two-run single by Hunter Korger, who drove in Jared Klein and Jacob Neve, both of whom walked to start the inning.

Plover finally got to Marshfield starter Connor Jasurda in the third. The Black Sox had six singles in the inning, plating three runs, to chase Jasurda with one out. Jared Johnsrud entered and coaxed an inning-ending double play.

Plover added two more runs in the fourth inning and scored four times in the fifth to open up a 9-2 lead.

Derek Baumgartner had two-RBI doubles in both frames for the Black Sox. He finished with three hits and five RBIs in all.

Marshfield scored its final run in the seventh on an RBI ground out by Logan Jakobi.

MARSHFIELD — Ryan Krueger delivered a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive in the winning run and lift the Marshfield Post 54 American Legion varsity baseball team to a 4-3 victory over Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday night at Jack Hackman Field.
