MARSHFIELD — Athletes competing in the Special Olympics Summer Games were joined by members of the Marshfield Police Department on June 8 to participate in the annual Torch Run.
The tradition signifies a “flame of hope” and is organized to raise awareness for the Special Olympic games, which were held in Stevens Point June 8-10.
Participants met at the Marshfield Police Department and worked their way through the city, ending at the Weiler’s Convenience Store on East Fourth Street. From there, law enforcement officers traveled on to Stevens Point to participate in the opening ceremony of the games.
Marshfield officers joined law enforcement organizations from Wausau, Merrill, Lincoln Hills, Crandon/Forest, Price, and Wisconsin Rapids in the Region 2 leg of the Torch Run.
