Lawrence H. Rau, age 93, Wausau, died on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Mountain Terrace Senior Living, Wausau.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 12 at Christ Lutheran Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Daryn Bahn officiating. Burial will take place in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Foster, Wisconsin. The visitation will be from 1 pm until 4 pm on Sunday at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, and from 10 am on Monday until service time at Christ Lutheran Church.

Lawrence was born on June 1, 1924 in Eau Claire, Eau Claire County, the son of William and Christina (Miller) Rau. He was educated in the Eau Claire County school system and graduated from Fall Creek High School in 1943.

Lawrence and Valeria A. Lange were married on October 23, 1949 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church near Foster, Wisconsin. She died on December  1, 2008. They lived for a short time in Augusta, Wisconsin, eventually moving to New Richmond, Wisconsin, where their son Tom was born. In 1954 they moved to Chilton, Wisconsin, where their second child, daughter Teri was born. Their final move was to Marshfield in 1964. Lawrence worked at both the Augusta and New Richmond Co-ops, becoming general manager at New Richmond in 1950. In 1954 he joined the Cenex field staff becoming District Marketing Supervisor in 1959. He retired from Cenex in 1985 and then worked with Associated Bank and later with Heritage Bank coordinating their “Classic Clubs”. Lawrence and Valeria enjoyed many memorable trips in this role.

Lawrence served on the Marshfield School Board, several church councils and took great pride in his membership and work in the Lions Club. For most of his life, Lawrence was an avid golfer and fisherman and a loyal fan of the Packers and Brewers. Of all the things he did in life, Lawrence devoted special energy to his roles of husband to Valeria, father to Tom and Teri and “Grampy” to Josh, Ben and Zak. Lawrence was a man of deep and abiding faith. He was a loyal friend and devoted family man. His presence in the lives of those who knew him will be missed.

He is survived by his son Thomas L. (Margaret) Rau, daughter Theresa L. (Lee) Williams all of Wausau. He is also survived by 3 grandsons, Joshua T. (Lindsay) Rau, Chicago, Benjamin J. Rau, Olympia, WA and Zachary L. Rau, Chicago. He is further survived by a special brother-in-law, Myron (Bonnie) Lange of Augusta.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, three brothers and one sister.
