Cordova, Reckner win opening match at WIAA State Individual Boys Tennis Tournament
Tigers’ No. 1 doubles team faces Eau Clarie Memorial team Friday in sectional rematch

MADISON — Marshfield’s No. 1 doubles team of Jared Cordova and Derek Reckner won its opening match Thursday at the 2017 WIAA State Individual Boys Tennis Tournament at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
Cordova, a freshman, and Reckner, a senior, beat Steven Fredeen and Ben Fredeen of Green Bay Southwest 6-2, 6-4 in the opening round of the Division 1 No. 1 doubles tournament.
Cordova and Reckner, now 22-4 this season, will face Zach Wolfe and Sam Rechek of Eau Claire Memorial (18-4) in a second-round match at 9 a.m. Friday. Wolfe and Rechek beat the Marshfield duo in the sectional championship match May 24. Third-round and quarterfinal matches are also scheduled for Friday.
The tournament concludes with the semifinals and championship matches, along with consolation matches, on Saturday.
