Sheriff reminds farmers to stay safe
By Gregory Herrick
Clark County Sheriff
With the warmer weather finally upon us, I would like to remind everyone to be careful and safe in their farming activities.
As we all know, farming is a dangerous occupation that sometimes results in accidents. There are skid steer loaders, Power-Take-Offs, tractors, elevators, and a lot of other equipment that could hurt or kill you.
This season please take that extra minute or two to ensure that everyone, including you, stays safe. Look at your surroundings to ensure that everyone is accounted for and out of harm’s way. Make sure safety guards and panels are in place before using equipment. The few minutes it would take to tighten down a safety guard or look around is better than trying to recover from a medical injury or hurting someone else.
Very few things have the tragic effect on friends or family than the death or serious injury of a loved one. They are left with hospital bills or a deep sense of loss that only a death brings.
Please be safe in your activities this season. Clark County is a great place to grow up and farm, and I hope you will continue to enjoy it with me in 2017.
