Tigers drop to 4-6 in WVC

SCHOFIELD — The Marshfield girls soccer team had first-place D.C. Everest on the ropes into the early portion of the second half before the Evergreens erupted for five unanswered goals to win the Wisconsin Valley Conference game 5-0 on Thursday night at D.C. Everest Middle School.

Marshfield goalie Wendy Rodriguez made 14 saves through the first 54 minutes before an injury suffered on a collision with an Everest player forced her from the game.

Less than two minutes later, Kendra Wolfgram scored for Everest to start the onslaught, pouring in five goals in 28 minutes.

D.C. Everest is now 13-4-1 overall and a perfect 10-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Marshfield has its two-game winning streak snapped as it falls to 5-11-1 and 4-6 in the WVC.

“D.C. Everest took shot after shot, but Wendy just turned away everything they had as she played, by far, her most outstanding game of her career,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “D.C. Everest is a very good team and one that in all likelihood will make a trip to state. We changed it up a little adding a sweep on defense, and it really worked as the team stood the test for a long time.”

Marshfield was outshot 33-2, including 21-1 on goal.

The Tigers wrap up their regular-season and WVC schedule next week, hosting Wausau East on Tuesday and Wausau West on Thursday.
