Jasurda, Korger pick up wins, strike out 16

WAUSAU — The Marshfield baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a sweep of a doubleheader at Wausau East on Thursday, winning 11-2 and 6-1.

Marshfield is now 7-9 overall and 6-3 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. East falls to 1-17 and 0-10 in conference play.

Connor Jasurda struck out seven and did not walk a batter in a complete-game effort to earn the win in Game 1 for the Tigers. He also scored a pair of runs.

Marshfield led 4-1 after six innings before a seven-run explosion in the seventh put away the victory.

Jake Brueggen hit a home run and scored three times, and Conner Berry had three RBIs for Marshfield.

Hunter Korger grabbed the victory in Game 2, striking out nine in five innings.

Ryan Krueger had three hits, Jared Klein had two hits and an RBI, and Brueggen had two hits and two RBIs for the Tigers.

“Two nice wins to keep us going in the conference race,” Marshfield coach Jon Bauer said. “Conner Berry and Braden Bohman had multiple hits, and Jake Brueggen powered up a long ball for us in the first game. Connor Jasurda pitched it well to get us the ‘W.’ Our defense did a very nice job.

“In the second game, Hunter Korger pitched it well, and Logan Jakobi did a nice job finishing the game. Our defense was strong again to keep us in good shape in the game.”

Marshfield hosts Stevens Point on Friday at 7 p.m. at Jack Hackman Field.
