WAUSAU — Maddie Haessly scored with 18:40 remaining in the game to lead the Marshfield girls soccer team to a 3-2 win over Wausau East on Tuesday at East High School.

Haessly’s game-winner came off an assist from Nina Hashimoto to break a 2-2 tie as the Tigers and Lumberjacks alternated goals throughout the contest.

Hashimoto scored off an assist from Kendra Tremelling at the 8:12 mark before Emma Dehnel tied it for East (2-12-1, 0-8-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference) seven minutes later.

Marshfield (4-10-1, 3-5 Wisconsin Valley Conference) regained the lead when Maureen Cassidy assisted on Haessly’s first goal with 5:45 to go before halftime.

East tied the match again on a Sierra Delonay goal 11:32 into the second half before Haessly won it late for Marshfield.

Wendy Rodriguez had one save, and Andrea Carolfi had five saves in goal for the Tigers.

“Maddie plays with hustle and never gives up on a loose ball,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “She makes those around her better. Tonight we got goals from our two starting forwards and assists from three different players.”
