Weiler strikes out nine in complete-game two-hitter for Tigers

By Paul Lecker

Sports Reporter

STRATFORD — Kiana Weiler threw a complete-game two-hitter and added two hits and two RBIs as the Stratford softball team whipped Marathon 8-1 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Friday at Hilgemann Field.

The Tigers earn a season-split with Marathon and are now 11-6 overall and 6-3 in the Marawood South. Marathon drops to 14-5 and 8-2 in conference play.

After allowing a run in the first inning on an RBI single from Amanda Kind, Weiler was perfect the rest of the game. She finished with nine strikeouts and no walks.

Stratford came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning and scored six times in the second to provide all the runs it would need.

Sammy Griesbach and Cassidy Vanderleest each added a pair of hits for the Tigers, and Vanderleest drove in three runs.

Stratford will compete at the Gilman/Thorp Tournament on Saturday before wrapping up the regular season with four games next week. The Tigers host Northland Lutheran on Monday, play at Wausau Newman Catholic on Tuesday, host Auburndale in their Marawood South finale Thursday, and play a nonconference game at Cloverbelt Conference East Division champion Spencer next Friday. The WIAA playoffs begin May 23.
