Haessly scores Tigers’ only goal

MARSHFIELD — Maddie Haessly scored early for Marshfield, but that was all the Tigers could muster as they dropped a 4-1 decision to Stevens Point in Wisconsin Valley Conference girls soccer action Tuesday at Griese Park.

Haessly scored off an assist from Elizabeth Holbrook at the 9:45 mark for Marshfield’s lone goal.

Grace Smith tied the game for Stevens Point nine minutes later, and Kaylin Kostuchowski scored 4:41 before halftime to put the Panthers up for good.

Stevens Point (10-3, 6-2 Wisconsin Valley Conference) added a pair of goals in the final 13 minutes to put away the victory.

Wendy Rodriguez had one save and Andrea Carolfi had three in goals for the Tigers (3-9-1, 2-4 Wisconsin Valley Conference).

Marshfield had just three shots on goal in the loss.

“We played well in the first half only to give up two very cheap goals and trail at the half,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We really lost positioning in the second half and allowed SPASH to look better than the score should have been. It is disappointing as we had an opportunity to grab the win, but we just did not play like we could have and have been lately.”

Marshfield plays at Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday night.
