Donahue strikes out 12, hits home run to lift Marshfield softball past Merrill

MARSHFIELD — Megan Donahue struck out 12 in a complete-game effort and hit her seventh home run of the season to lead the Marshfield softball team to a narrow 3-2 win over Merrill on Tuesday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Marshfield is now 10-3 overall and 6-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Merrill drops to 8-9 and 4-6 in the WVC. The Tigers host D.C. Everest, which is one-half game ahead of them for second place in the conference standings, on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Melissa Roberts and Madelyn Mews added RBIs for the Tigers, and Jenna Jakobi and Emily Draeger each had two hits in the win.

After the game was tied at 1-1, Marshfield scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning and then held off a Merrill rally in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.
