WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Stratford scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning and held off a rally in the seventh to top Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 3-2 in a Marawood Conference South Division baseball game Monday at Witter Field.
Assumption’s Ethan Peters and Stratford’s Lucas Heidmann were locked into a scoreless pitchers’ duel until the Tigers scratched across three runs in the sixth.
Dylan Schoenherr had an RBI single to score Cole Hoffman, and Andrew Bargender knocked in both Dakota Singer and Devyn Palmer to give Stratford a 3-0 lead.
Assumption (7-4, 4-3 Marawod South) scored twice in the top of the seventh on RBIs from Peters and Trevor Newton before Heidmann was able to wiggle out of the jam and preserve the victory for the Tigers (8-4, 4-3 Marawood South).
Heidmann struck out four and walked two in the complete-game effort for Stratford.
Stratford plays at Pittsville on Thursday.
