Brueggen throws four-hit shutout, has two hits for Tigers

By Paul Lecker

Sports Reporter

MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield baseball team earned its second-straight win, completing a season sweep of Merrill, as the Tigers took down the Bluejays 11-0 on Thursday at Jack Hackman Field.

Marshfield is now 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Merrill drops to 4-9 and 2-5 in the conference.

Jake Brueggen tossed the five-inning, complete-game shutout for the Tigers, scattering four hits and three walks while striking out seven. He also added a single and a double at the plate and scored three runs.

Braden Bohman, Paul Maguire, and Jared Klein each had three hits with Maguire driving in four runs, Bohman three, and Klein two. Bohman also scored three times and had a stolen base for Marshfield.

“It was a very nice job by the team,” Marshfield coach Jon Bauer said. “We played a clean game defensively, Jake had a great performance on the mound, and our bats started showing some life. Got to move on and get ready for Chippewa Falls on Saturday.”

Marshfield hosts Chippewa Falls for a nonconference doubleheader Saturday at Jack Hackman Field beginning at 11 a.m.
