Rockets extend Cloverbelt East win streak to 31

By Paul Lecker

Sports Reporter

SPENCER — The Spencer softball team extended its winning streak to five games with a 12-2 victory over Gilman in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division matchup Friday at Spencer High School.

The Rockets, who started the season 0-4, are now 5-4 overall and 4-0 in the Cloverbelt East. Gilman falls to 5-3 and 1-2 in the conference. Spencer has now won 31-straight games in Cloverbelt East play.

Lexi Baehr hit a home run and had four RBIs, and Jenna Schober, Katie Fleischman, and Tiffany Meinders each had two RBIs for the Rockets.

Meinders earned the victory on the mound, striking out 12 and allowing five hits and just one walk in the game that ended via the 10-run rule after Spencer scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth.

“Tiffany threw another great game, and Lexi did a nice job hitting her home run with two strikes,” Spencer coach Jason Gorst said. “I am really impressed with how much our girls have improved. They have a great desire to learn. The softball conversations we are having on a daily basis are really enjoyable. Next week will be a big one for us.”

Spencer plays at Gilman on Monday, has a doubleheader at home against Neillsville on Tuesday, and hosts Greenwood next Friday in a series of games that could help decide the Cloverbelt East title when it is all said and done.
