MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield Police Department conducted practice drills with its K-9 unit on April 11 as part of its monthly training schedule.

“(We practice) twice a month: 16 hours a month, eight hours a day,” said Officer Terry Endries, who is handler for police dog H.

On this occasion, Marshfield’s Belgian Malinois, Steffi, and German shepherd, H, were joined by the Marathon County K-9 program.

“We do a variety of things normally, a combination of drug stuff, tracking, bite work, and things like that,” said Endries. “A lot of times we will do school searches in the beginning, but we just did our high school last week.”

Steffi and H are capable of identifying the presence of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, crack, and methamphetamine.
