GREEN BAY — The Marshfield girls soccer team was shut out at Green Bay Southwest 2-0 in a nonconference game Tuesday night.
After a scoreless first half, Taylor Johnson scored unassisted four minutes into the second half, and Liz Cumber lofted a shot just over Marshfield goalie Wendy Rodriguez at the 83:12 mark to push Southwest to the victory.
Marshfield (1-3) was outshot 6-3 in the defensive battle.
“We had chances and need to catch a break and starting hitting for some goals,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “Our touches need to be cleaned up to beat one of these strong teams. We need better passes and traps to have more opportunities.”
Marshfield plays at Stevens Point in its Wisconsin Valley Conference opener Thursday and will host Hortonville in its home opener Friday at Griese Park.
