MARSHFIELD — The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County Office of Continuing Education has a number of new offerings for April.

Jeffrey Kleiman is leading a two-part history lecture series. “American Political Parties” will examine the United States’ unique form of democracy, the two-party system, which developed quite by accident, on April 6 from 6-7:30 p.m. On April 13 from 6-7:30 p.m. will be “What’s in the Constitution?,” an exploration of the document that defines modern America. Take one course for $15 or both for $25.

“Beginner Bicycle Maintenance,” taught by The Sports Den, will help participants get their ride ready for spring on April 11 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $50 and includes a tire lever set, a tube, and lubricant.

With gardening season right around the corner, Continuing Education is holding “Basic Vegetable Seed Starting” on April 20 from 6-7:30 p.m. Discover basic methods of seed starting, including seed selection, soil mixes, containers, creating a planting calendar, and caring for seeds and seedlings. The course fee is $29.

For all aspiring photographers, there are several photography courses available, all of which are taught by photographer Barbara Smith.

“Flower Photography” will be held on April 8 from 9 a.m. – noon. Learn techniques for photographing flowers indoors and out and how to edit images using Photoshop. The fee for the class is $39.

Discover the camera’s frequently used features and develop techniques to take more compelling photos in “Eight Steps to Great Photos.” This two-part class is held April 22 and April 29, 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., and the cost is $79.

In “The Magic of Photoshop,” learn how to edit photos from start to finish and get them ready for web, email, and print. This two-part class is May 6 and May 13, 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., and the fee is $79.

Brochures are available at the Office of Continuing Education and other community locations. Many classes fill quickly, so early registration is advised. View a full course listing or register online at marshfield.uwc.edu/ce; by phone at 715-389-6520; or in person at the Office of Continuing Education, 2000 W. Fifth St. in Marshfield.
