Spencer girls and boys each finish second at season-opening Tomahawk Indoor Track Invite

Cade Lehman wins two events for Stratford boys

EAU CLAIRE — The Spencer and Stratford track and field teams started their 2017 seasons competing at the Tomahawk Indoor Track Invitational on Friday at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Spencer finished second in both the boys and girls team standings. The Stratford girls ended up fourth, and the boys took eighth.

Johanna Ellefson won the pole vault with a height of 9 feet, 6 inches, and freshman Hannah Zastrow took first in the high jump (5 feet, 2 inches) for Spencer. The Rockets had six runner-up finishes, including two from Zastrow.

Zastrow finished second behind Ellefson in the pole vault (8-6) and also was second in the 55-meter hurdles (9.90 seconds).

Also taking second for the Rockets were Kaitlin Kasch in the 800 (2:56.07), Kaily Northup in the long jump (15-4½) and 55 meters (8.03 seconds), and the 1,600 relay team (4:43.67).

Stratford’s 3,200 relay (11:54.76) and 800 relay (2:02.13) had the Tigers’ girls top finishes. Olympia Garrigan was third in the 800 (2:56.28), and Ingrid Bender was third in the 400 (1:10.80) as well for Stratford.

Stratford’s Cade Lehman won a pair of events on the boys’ side, taking first in the 1,600 (4:53.46) and the 3,200 (10:33.06).

The Spencer boys also had a pair of victories. Max Johnson won the shot put (43-1), and Noah Zastrow took first in the pole vault (13-6).

Taking second for the Rockets were Logan Zschernitz in the shot put (42-10½) and Jacob Miller in the pole vault (12-0), and Noah Zastrow also finished third in the 55 hurdles (9.01).
