Agnes M. Merkel

Agnes M. Merkel, 88, returned to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 15, 2017. Agnes had been residing at Serenity Living in Marshfield, Wisconsin. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 22 at St. John’s Catholic Church with Fr. Sam Martin officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery with grandsons as pallbearers. Visitation will take place from 5 until 8 pm on Tuesday at Rembs Funeral Home and again from 9 am until service time on Wednesday at St. John’s Catholic Church.
Agnes was born on March 15, 1929 in Medford to William and Marie (Klement) Fuchs. She graduated from Marshfield Senior High School in 1947. Agnes was united in marriage to Reuben A. Merkel on May 22, 1951 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hewitt. Together, they worked side by side farming in the Town of McMillan while raising their family. Agnes’s spiritual devotion and firm faith, her selfless example of love for and dedication to God and family were constant and at the forefront of everything she did. Agnes smile brought joy, her laughter, gentle spirit, grateful heart, and hugs will be cherished forever.
Agnes is survived by her children, Antoinette “Toni” (Wayne) Hunter of Byron, MN, Alvin (Mariann) Merkel of Marshfield, Bernadette (Larry) James of Brown Deer, Timothy Merkel of Marshfield, and daughter-in-law Vicki Merkel of Stratford, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is further survived by her brother Norbert (Joan) Fuchs of Nekoosa, Marcella Breu of Marshfield, Mary (Ray) Chevallier of Albuquerque, NM, and sister-in-law Pauline Fuchs of Marshfield. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Reuben, her son Al J. Merkel, her daughter Susan Merkel, and brother Joseph V. Fuchs.
